MY STORY
Interpreting has taught me that language is rarely the greatest challenge. More often, it is emotion, culture, history, fear, and trust that determine whether people truly understand one another. My role is to ensure none of those are lost simply because two people speak different languages.
For more than seventeen years, I have worked in environments where conversations carry lasting consequences. Depositions, forensic interviews, courtroom proceedings, and trauma-informed encounters have shaped the way I listen, prepare, and respond. Those experiences have taught me that the interpreter’s greatest responsibility is staying composed when no one else can.
As a Court-Certified Interpreter, holder of three nationally recognized medical interpreting certifications, and a Licensed Interpreter Trainer, I believe credentials are only the beginning. They represent a commitment to discipline, continued preparation, and a respect for this profession that demands nothing less than mastery at every level.
The Delaware School of Law’s Court Interpreter Program strengthened my legal foundation, but every assignment continues to teach me something new. That is what keeps this profession meaningful. There is always something new to understand, another challenge to meet, and another reason to return. This is not simply the work I do. It is a standard I hold myself to.
